Gopalpur port is located at a Latitude 19018’13.44″N and Longitude 84057’52.72″E along the coast of Bay of Bengal in the state of Odisha. It is midway on the 22km stretch of coastline, extending from the Gopalpur town in south and Rushikulya river mouth in the north. The port is 90 nautical miles south of Paradip port and 110 nautical miles north of Vishakhapatnam port.

Proximity to bauxite rich areas of Sundargarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Kalahandi and steel clusters of central Odisha, offers a sizable advantage to Gopalpur. Mineral rich areas of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jharsguda, Sambalpur and Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) form a natural hinterland for Gopalpur. The coal fields of IB and Talcher, which account for approximately 25% of India’s coal reserves and 100% of Odisha’s coal reserves (source MCL) too form part of hinterland for the port.

RAIL CONNECTIVITY

Gopalpur Port’s excellent rail connectivity is due to its own railway siding which is only 6 km from the Howrah-Visakhapatnam-Chennai broad gauge railway line. Major ports like Kolkata, Haldia, Paradip, Visakhapatnam and Chennai are well connected with this particular line.

Currently under implementation, Theruvali-Gunupur rail link is expected to be functional in about 5 years. This will further enhance Gopalpur’s rail connectivity with its hinterland.

ROAD CONNECTIVITY

NH-5 (Kolkata-Chennai) is at a distance of about 6km from Gopalpur Port site. This highway is well connected with State Highway 7 and 17. This gives Gopalpur excellent road connectivity to its hinterland. Government has also announced a National Highway from Gopalpur to Raipur in Chhattisgarh, which will boost the road access further. These developments will facilitate the transport of the forest produce and other agricultural products to the Gopalpur Port and to larger markets on the coastal areas.

AIR CONNECTIVITY

The nearest airport is the Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneshwar, is at a distance of 138 km from Gopalpur port. The port also has facilities of helipad within the port limits. The closest airstrip is Rangeilunda, which is at a distance of 14 kms.
